More than your average trainer

By asking only “YES” questions, I am creating a safe environment. Helping setting your animal and yourself up for success.

Giving your animal the opportunity to think and decide for themselves by using attunement. Showing them that we See them, we Hear them, we Get them and we show Empathy towards them by helping to grow confidence in themselves and in us.

Combining Ethology, natural instinct and the understanding of the animal’s body language. Gives me the skill to assist with problem behaviour and behaviour problems.

I mainly focus on concept training. This is where the animal learns how to apply their learned skills to new circumstances. As opposed to training specific responses to specific situations. With concept training, it gives your animal the opportunity to make good choices. And the great part about this type of training, it is all about playing games and adapting. No dog or pet parent is the same. To build a strong, loving and trustworthy partnership and bond. I will find a pathway, where both of you can find the perfect connection.

Games are used to prepare your dog for the situation instead of putting them in the situation and then trying to change the behaviour.  When they are too excited, too frustrated, or too afraid it is impossible to learn.

Concepts include, Calmness, Engagement, Flexibility, Focus, Optimism, Proximity, Self-control, Thinking in arousal, and more.  The games used to teach these concepts can create long-lasting, real-life results and help you and your dog select the best choices in any situation.

Why is training so important?

Training allows you to communicate with your dog to build a relationship of trust and respect. Good trainers use signals (verbal and non verbal) to bring out the best in their dogs. Asking for a sit or down, we use their natural pacifying behaviour to help calm them down in certain situations.  Recall is most important for safety.  Going into heel position keeps them close and safe next to you.  “Leave” and “drop it” helps to keep us and them safe. You can see a pattern forming here. Training helps keeping your dog safe.

Here are just a few reasons why you should keep training your dog and not stop after puppy training:

It keeps your dog active physically and mentally.

Dogs need stimulation to stay healthy and alert into old age, just like people. No matter how old your dog is, it’s never too late to teach him a few tricks to add some spice to his life.

It helps avoid temperament and behaviour problems. (when done correctly)

Many dogs develop behaviour problems because their owners fail to set rules and to be consistent in those rules.

It allows your dog to communicate with you and fit into your life.

It’s impossible to have a relationship with someone you can’t talk to. Through training, your dog will come to understand not only your words but your personality and expectations. Once you and your dog can communicate and work together, you’ll have true companionship.

No dog is too old to learn new tricks.
